The Flavours of Herriot Country Awards has meant so much to previous winners of this prestigious award, as well as the acknowledgement and recognition, the publicity that the awards generate gave them a really high profile. They can proudly display their Flavours of Herriot Country awards trophy as a mark of their outstanding achievements.
Here are just a few comments from previous winners of the Flavours of Herriot Country Awards…..
Yorks of Thirsk
“Flavours of Herriot Country awards was the first we’ve entered in 24 years of running Yorks and I remember receiving the news that we’d won Breakfast of the year clearly. We were completely shocked that we’d won our fabulous trophy, and it just was the icing on the cake of a very busy hard year. Our trophy has pride of place in our front window for all the world to see as they stroll on by.
As regards publicity the few weeks afterwards we were receiving lots of new customers come to try our “award winning breakfasts” after they’d seen the results in the local press and social media. Since then our trade has gone from strength to strength and I’m sure this must have something to do with it.
All I can say to anyone deciding to enter or not is , just do it, you never know, you might be a first time winner like us!!”
The George at Wath
“The Flavours of Herriot Country awards gave me chance to push my chefs on, and to be ambitious while learning their trade. The ceremony is a great outing, celebrating our true passions”
Wensleydale Brewery Ltd, Leyburn
We were honoured to win “Locally Brewed Beer of the Year” in the 2015 Flavours of Herriot Country Awards. Having owned the brewery for just shy of three years, we felt it was testament to the hard work and dedication that we have put in since taking over, and of course it’s great to be able to fly the flag for craft beers in our local area! This accolade raised our profile in the local area, and it was great to be able to mention this when speaking with retailers and wholesalers about new and existing listings. We’d encourage other breweries to enter the awards – it’s quick, easy and free, and it’s time we put the micro breweries of Richmondshire and Hambleton on the map! www.wensleydalebrewery.co.uk

Stamps Coffee Shop, Great Ayton
For me it is a fantastic reflection of the hard work and professionalism of the team here at Stamps Coffee Shop. Stamps is in the heart of the community of Great Ayton and winning the “Readers Choice” award for the last two years means so much to me. I really appreciate that our customers have taken the time and effort to vote for us; this makes the award really special and personal. The Flavours of Herriot Country Awards event itself is a fabulous opportunity to meet other small businesses in Hambleton, to hear their stories and celebrate their success. Long may it continue! www.stampscoffeeshop.co.uk

“Winning the “Specialist Retailer of the Year” at The Flavours of Herriot Country award was in our view the turning point for our business. The number of visitors to our shop has increased since the ceremony in December and many have seen the award proudly displayed in our front window. On the strength of this success we have created more jobs for local people. We are being approached for more diverse work and collaborations than before which is how we’d like our business to grow.
Upstairs at Institution
“The positive impact we have seen since winning Tea Room of the Year at the 2016 Flavours of Herriot Country Awards has been dramatic. Our profile has significantly increased, along with footfall and subsequent trade.
Customers visiting have said they’d heard about the awards and have come along to see for themselves.
We can now prefix ‘Award Winning’ in our marketing, which always grabs attention.”
The Hare Inn Restaurant, Scawton
Winning “restaurant of the year” with Flavours of Herriot Country Awards was the icing on the cake for an exceptional 2015 for us. Being recognised that we were the best in our area for what we offer was a real morale boost for the whole team and encouraged us to continue working with the passion and enthusiasm which had won us the award in the first place. The response from the media and public was great, it really puts you on the local map and offers you an opportunity to shout about what you have achieved! Entry was simple. However you need to impress the judges by doing what you offer your guests every day and showing that your team strive for excellence and always want to exceed expectation in every aspect. www.thehare-inn.com

The Garden Rooms, Tennants, Leyburn
In 2014 we opened our refurbished café as part of The Garden Rooms at Tennants development, alongside our highly regarded restaurant, display galleries and events venue, and were thrilled to win Best Attraction Catering of the Year. This recognition was a great boost for the talented team as we embarked on this new venture, from the front of house waiting staff, through to the senior chefs in the kitchens. The Flavours of Herriot Country Awards is a great way to promote the well-established culture of excellent food and drink in this much loved part of Yorkshire.
Roots Farmshop, East Rounton
We were thrilled with winning Best Butcher 2014, it was a real boost for the whole team and has strengthened the quality of our brand in the consumers mind. www.rootsfarmshop.co.uk
Rounton Coffee, East Rounton
Winning the Specialist Retailer of the year last year was a fantastic achievement for us. As a new business we were pitched against some already well established businesses and we were proud enough to be nominated. To actually win the award was such recognition of all the hard work we have put in throughout the year, and to win the award was a huge endorsement for us and really gave us the impetus to continue on. As well as the endorsement, we were given a huge amount of publicity and recognition which we still get the benefit from today. www.rountoncoffee.co.uk
